Craig Lynch has studied and performed music since the age of 9 when he began piano lessons in his home town of Fostoria, Ohio. Right around this time, the movie ‘The Sting’ came out and the sound of Ragtime was everywhere. Craig instantly fell in love with the music of Scott Joplin, and it wasn’t long before Craig decided to tackle the complete works of this great American composer. Branching out into other Ragtime composers, Craig would spend hours and hours working his way through new pieces, developing into a strong sight reader.
Beginning in middle school, and extending through high school, Craig became a much in-demand soloist and accompanist. During high school, he was the accompanist of the Fostoria High School Chorale, directed by William Schwepe. During this time, Craig began to study music theory with Mr. Schwepe. In middle school, Craig also began trumpet lessons, playing the instrument in the Fostoria High marching and concert band, securing first chair in his senior year.
Craig attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition. During these years, Craig continued his piano studies with David Pope, while maintaining a busy schedule of accompanying.
In 1989, Craig moved from Ohio to San Jose, CA, where he worked at Starlite Ballroom in Sunnyvale, running the sales and management of the new student department. He eventually became one of the owners of the company. In October of 2009, Craig began teaching piano lessons during the weekend and, in May of 2011, he left the dance industry and became a full-time piano instructor.
In early 2023, Craig and his wife moved to Queen Creek, AZ, where he continues his piano instruction via Zoom with his California students and in-person with his Queen Creek families. Craig loves teaching piano students of all ages and levels.
